Key
Overtone rings each Drop through filters tuned to the key, so noise and texture turn into bell tones.
Master
Tape speed
The same Room, Echo and Tape as PALA Catch, on everything Prism plays. Tape speed slows or speeds up the whole sound, pitch and all, like a tape machine. Tap the number to return to 1×.
Export
Free includes 3 exports a month (a Bounce or a Ride). Creator Pass and Pro: no limit, and stems.
Ride itPlay the ring and the Master while it records, up to 60 seconds. Tap Stop when you're done.
Saves 30 seconds of what you hear as a 24-bit / 48 kHz WAV in your private PALA Vault, tagged SYNTH-PAD and GRANULAR. From there you can open it in World Builder.
Archive
Every soundscape saves itself here, 10 seconds after you stop changing things. Rebirth reopens it with its Drops and settings.
How to play Prism
Start
- Tap REC on Drop 1 and make a sound for a few seconds, then tap STOP. Or tap VAULT to bring in a sound from your private PALA Vault.
- Tap PLAY.
- Turn the ring with one finger. You're sliding through your sound.
- Add a second Drop the same way. Each Drop has its own colour, and the others go quiet while you record so they stay out of the new one.
- Tap 1 to hear Drop 1 on its own and shape it. Tap 2 to add Drop 2. Tap a number you can hear to turn that Drop off. Tap ALL to hear every Drop again.
- The ring and the settings change the last Drop you added (it has a coloured ring around its number).
- Scroll down to Master and raise Room, Echo or Tape.
- Tap Bounce, or Ride it to record while you play.
Gestures on the ring
- Turn with one finger: Slide.
- Pinch in or pull apart: changes the setting picked in the ring's top-right corner (PINCH). Tap it to pick another: Grain Size, Morph, Density, Spray, Scan, Scatter, Tone or Volume. Moving a fader below picks it too. Double-tap the ring to put that setting back where it started.
- Quick flick up or down: an octave up or down.
On a computer
- Drag around the ring: Slide.
- Scroll, or pinch on a trackpad: the setting picked in the ring's corner (PINCH). Double-click the ring to put it back where it started.
- Keys: 1 to 4 add or turn off a Drop, 0 is ALL, Up and Down change the octave, Space mutes, R starts and stops a Ride.
What the controls do
- Grain Size: how long each grain is. Short is buzzy and glitchy; long is smooth and close to the original.
- Morph: how many grains overlap. More is thicker and smoother.
- Density: how many grains per second. The middle is the rate Morph sets. Down from there, the grains thin into separate sparks with gaps between; up, they pile into a swarm. Away from the middle the timing loosens, so it rains rather than ticks.
- Slide: where in the Drop the grains come from.
- Spray: how far each grain wanders from Slide. Low stays on one moment; high pulls from all over the Drop and spreads the grains wide across left and right.
- Scan: lets Slide travel on its own, forward or backward, from a slow drift up to twice real time. In the middle it stays still. Turn the ring while it scans to jump.
- Scatter: gives each grain its own random pitch, from a faint shimmer to an octave either way. With Harmonize on, a pitched Drop's grains land on the notes of the key.
- Tone: takes the harsh highs off a Drop, with a light touch of tape warmth as you go darker. OPEN leaves the sound untouched.
- Volume (under Tone): this Drop's own level. 100% is as recorded; up to 150%. Master Volume sets everything at once.
- Octave: -12, native, or +12.
- Harmonize: moves pitched Drops to the key you pick (it starts in F# Lydian).
- Overtone: rings each Drop through filters tuned to the key, so noise turns into bell tones.
- Master: Room, Echo, Tape and Volume on everything, the same as PALA Catch. Tape speed slows or speeds up the whole sound, pitch and all.
Saving and sharing
- Bounce: 30 seconds as a WAV.

- Every export saves to Prism/Exports in your Vault. Free includes 3 exports a month.
- Archive (the box at the top): every soundscape saves itself there by day, in a List or a Calendar. Tap one to listen, or Rebirth to reopen it.
- Prism starts fresh each time you open it. What you made is in the Archive.
